In the past, varicose veins were typically treated with a surgical procedure called vein stripping, where the vein was completely removed from the leg. Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) is a newer, non-surgical treatment for the ablation of malfunctioning veins. It is now considered to be the gold standard treatment for venous insufficiency and large varicose veins.
EVLT is performed in our clinic and is usually completed in less than 1 hour with patients returning home on the same day. To prevent discomfort during the procedure we use a local anesthetic. Patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment and can even return to work the following day.
