We believe good primary care is the key to good health. Our General Practitioners can see a wide range of issues, including injuries, skin conditions and mental health issues.

For most patients, we recommend seeing our GPs first regarding their condition rather than booking directly with a specialist.

Acute Illness

We offer rapid assessment and treatment for acute illnesses, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections, including COVID19 and influenza
  • Strep throat
  • Sinusitis
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Kidney stones
  • Rashes
  • Migraine headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Ear infections
  • Eye infections

 

For acute conditions, we endeavour to provide same-day appointment availability. If you require a same-day appointment, please advise our reception staff.

Out of hours care is also available when the clinic is closed.

Chronic Conditions

Our primary care doctors are able to provide holistic management of chronic medical conditions, including:

  • Hypertension
  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • Reflux
  • Eczema
  • Acne

Mental Health

An important part of primary care is management of mental health. All of our primary care doctors have experience in managing mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Panic attacks

 

We also have an on-site cognitive behavioural therapist and visiting psychiatrist on our team to offer comprehensive treatment for these conditions.

Women’s Health

We offer a full range of women’s health services, including pap smears, pregnancy care, and menopause treatment. Please see our dedicated page for more details.

Dr Nicola Yeboah

Dr Nicola Yeboah

MBBS (Medical Doctorate) London

The clinic’s managing partner, Dr Yeboah has practiced at our clinic for over 20 years following her medical training in the UK. Her areas of special interest are perimenopause and lifestyle medicine.

She studied medicine at the University of London (University College Hospital ), and underwent a general practice rotation including pediatrics, elderly medicine and emergency medicine. She has completed further training in Women’s Health including management of the perimenopause and menopause. Dr Yeboah is fluent in German.

Thomas Lomax

Dr Thomas Lomax

MBBS (Medical Doctorate) London,BSc,DRCOG,MRCGP(UK)

A UK-trained GP and partner in the clinic, Dr Lomax has special interests in minor surgery and sports medicine, and has practiced at Tokyo Medical and Surgical clinic for over 15 years.

He graduated from London University (Royal Free Hospital) in 2000 and worked in Surgery and Emergency Medicine in St George’s Hospital, London, for five years. Subsequently trained in general practice, gaining experience in Psychiatry and a doctorate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Passed the MRCGP (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners) exam in 2008 and shortly after moved to Tokyo where he has practiced since.

Ivor Cammack

Dr Ivor Cammack

MBChB (Medical Doctorate) New Zealand FRNZGP

A Kiwi-British GP and partner in the clinic, Dr Cammack has a specialist interests in sports medicine and injury management, and speaks fluent French.

He completed training in New Zealand and practiced injury and general medicine in a ski resort in Hokkaido for several years before moving to Tokyo in 2020. He has postgraduate qualifications in Pediatrics, Palliative care and Medical education. Ivor lived in France and speaks fluent French.

Gautam Deshpande

Dr Gautam Deshpande

MA,MD,FACP

A native of New Jersey, Dr. Deshpande is a U.S.-trained and board certified internal medicine physician. A partner at the Clinic, he has special interests in undiagnosed illness, infectious disease, and autoimmune conditions.

After receiving a BA/MA in Human Biology and Anthropology from Stanford University, he completed his MD at Penn State University College of Medicine, followed by an internal medicine residency at UC-San Diego. He has practiced in Japan since 2009.

As well as his partnership at Tokyo Medical and Surgical Clinic, he maintains a Clinical Assistant Professorship at the University of Hawaii and is a Professor of General Medicine at Juntendo University.

Nicholas Rennick

Dr Nicholas Rennick

An Australian GP, Dr Rennick has a special interest in pediatrics, and management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, cholesterol and diabetes. He offers consultation in both English and Japanese.

He graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School in 2015, and then went on to complete specialist training in General Practice in Perth.

As a father of three young children, Dr Rennick particularly enjoys looking after children, and has completed the post-graduate Sydney Child Health Program. He is fluent in Japanese, and in addition to his partnership at Tokyo Medical and Surgical Clinic is active in teaching Japanese medical students.

Ryu Sasae

Dr Ryu Sasae

A UK-trained GP, Dr Sasae is currently the director of the Department of International Healthcare at NTT Medical Center Tokyo. He offers consultation in English and Japanese.

He graduated from Nottingham University (UK) in 2005 and obtained his nMRCGP (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners) in 2010. Dr Sasae practiced as a GP in London until 2017.

Hiro Uematsu

Dr Hiro Uematsu

MD,AAFP

A US-board certified family physician, Dr Uematsu completed his family medicine residency in Illinois before returning to Japan. He also has an active role in teaching medical students and junior doctors.

Dr. Uematsu graduated from Aichi Medical University in 2006 and completed his family medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in 2014.

He is a licensed family physician in the U.S. (American Board of Family Medicine) and Japan with special interests in point-of-care ultrasonography. Currently, he practices in a community hospital and clinic and shares his expertise with medical students and residents.
